Leadership, Mentorship, and Training: Building Quality Care Through Investments in People

Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to train and mentor professionals across a variety of settings. Before joining Autism & Behavioral Spectrum, I provided professional development for large school teams, presented continuing education trainings for behavior analysts, and collaborated with multidisciplinary teams serving students with diverse needs. I have experienced many different training models over the years, but I have never encountered one as comprehensive and intentional as the model we have built at AB Spectrum. At the core of our approach is a simple belief: quality care starts with investing in people. Enthusiastic teacher interacting with children.

Whether someone is a behavior technician, a BCBA, a caregiver, or a trainer, we believe every member of a child’s support team deserves meaningful training, mentorship, and ongoing professional development. Through our Toby Tracks model and layered support systems, we prioritize not only excellent clinical outcomes for our clients but also long-term growth opportunities for our staff.

One of the best examples of this philosophy is our new technician training program. Before a technician ever works directly with a client, they participate in structured training designed to build foundational skills and confidence. New team members complete their 40-hour RBT certification training, observe experienced staff in the classroom, and practice critical skills such as data collection, goal implementation, and client engagement. Once they demonstrate competency, they are paired with a more seasoned RBT who provides hands-on coaching and real-time feedback before they are independently placed into client rotations.

Throughout my career, I have often seen new staff placed with clients before they felt fully prepared. Unfortunately, this can impact both staff confidence and client progress. At AB Spectrum, we take a different approach. We believe that investing in staff from day one leads to better outcomes for everyone. Our commitment to growth extends beyond behavior technicians.

New BCBAs entering our organization receive intensive mentorship and individualized support from Lead BCBAs, our Vice President of Clinical Affairs, and our Chief Clinical Officer. Weekly or bi-weekly meetings focus on professional growth, clinical decision-making, and problem-solving across caseloads. Depending on the individual’s needs, this mentorship may continue for several months or even a full year. What makes this support system especially unique is that it does not end once onboarding is complete. Across our clinics, our growing team of BCBAs collaborate through consultation, monthly meetings, and continuing education opportunities. Regardless of experience level, there is always someone available to provide guidance, mentorship, or a fresh perspective.

Equally important is our commitment to supporting caregivers. At AB Spectrum, we recognize that meaningful progress happens not only in the clinic but also in the home and community. These meetings focus on collaboration, individualized training, progress updates, and practical strategies families can use in their daily routines. By empowering caregivers, we help create consistency across environments and strengthen the support system surrounding each child.

At Autism & Behavioral Spectrum, our mission is empowering children, families, and caregivers through Reggio ABA. By investing in our staff, supporting our families, and fostering a culture of mentorship, we move closer each day to our vision of becoming the most trusted early intervention clinic. Because exceptional care begins with exceptional support.
