For months and sometimes even years, you’ve known in your gut that your child experiences the world differently. When the diagnosis is finally written on paper, it often brings many feelings, perhaps even a massive wave of relief. The weight shifts. You finally have a name for what you’ve been seeing. You’re not ovrereacting. You are not “just a bad parent.” You have an answer.
You look ahead and realize the diagnosis wasn’t the finish line, it was just the starting block. Suddenly, you are staring down a brand new road filled with unfamiliar terms, insurance phone calls, and next steps. It is a path that feels twisty, scary, and seemingly never-ending.
If you are standing at that crossroads right now, I want you to take a deep breath. Our Chief Clinical Officer (CCO), Jody, and I (Enrollment Experience Director) are standing there with you.
Bridging the Gap: From Diagnosis to FBA
Getting the diagnostic assessment completed is a massive journey in and of itself. But once it’s done, the question becomes “What now?”. At ABSpectrum, the next major step on this road is the initial evaluation to help determine what services may be beneficial to your child. For many parents, hearing about another evaluation can feel like just another hurdle to clear. Maybe it could even feel overwhelming to think about professionals analyzing your child’s behaviors and routines.
That is exactly why my role exists, and why I work hand-in-hand with our CCO.
Our absolute goal is to ensure you never feel scared or lost when transitioning from a diagnosis into the assessment process. We don’t just hand you a packet of paperwork and wish you luck. We take your hand and walk you through it.
Setting Clear Expectations
Fear usually comes from the unknown. When you work with our CCO and me, we strip away the clinical mystery and give you clear, honest expectations:
No Surprises: We explain exactly what the assessment looks like, why we do it, and how it helps us create a completely customized roadmap for your child.
Your Voice Matters: We don’t just observe your child, we listen to you. You are the expert on your child, and your input is the most valuable tool we have.
Educated & Confident: We want you to step into the world of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) feeling empowered, not intimidated. We translate the medical lingo into real, everyday language.
You Can Trust Us to Lead the Way
The ABA world can feel like a foreign country when you first arrive. It is entirely normal to feel a bit defensive, tired, and unsure of who to trust.
But please know this: our CCO brings world-class clinical expertise, and I bring the lived experience of a mom who has sat in those exact same meetings for my own child. Together, we form a protective circle around your family.
The road ahead might have its twists, but you don’t have to navigate the map alone. We are with you every single step of the way, converting fear into confidence, and hurdles into stepping stones.
